MinutesManitowoc 4-H Horse Committee September 9, 2008 Manitowoc County Office Complex Meeting Called to Order--7:10 PM by Chairperson Kelly Hansen. Attendance: Kelly & Lindsay Hansen, Sheila Cron, Brenda Weyers, Barb Pritzl, Terri & Kelly Wilfert, Lucy, Kaylyn & Kelsey Cigler, Anne Siebold, Jane Wiesner, Marilyn & Amber Lentz. Secretary's report: Passed as read. Treasurer's report: Passed as read. Old Business: State Gymkhana Show: Cigler's reported on the State Gynkhana show, held Sept. 6,7 at State Fair Park. Our team did fantastic-they received a total of 10 top ten's and Kelsey Cigler won the Sportsmanship award. Congratulations! See the website for more details and pictures. State Horse Expo: We have seven kids going to the State Horse Expo (Sept 11-14). Good Luck! 2008 Fair: We were all very happy with the good weather and great attitude that all the kids displayed throughout the Fair. Depending on the Fair schedule, we discussed the possibility of having a Gymkhana day and getting the Fair board to advertise it so spectators would come watch. We would also prefer the Horse Pull to be held on Friday so we have a full day on Thursday for youth activities. Marilyn will pass on our suggestions to the Fair Board. Winners of stall decorations were: Large Club: Taus Livewires; Small Club: Cato Future Farmers. 2008 July Show: Although participation numbers were down slightly from last year, we ended up with an overall profit of $1377, due mostly to sponsorships. Participation Books: Books for 2008/2009 are available on the website or at upcoming events. Horse Judging Team: Some members are interested in starting a Horse judging team for next year. Individual clubs should turn in a list of those interested. New Business: Fall Trail Ride: We will not have a trail ride this fall, but will plan better for next year. 2009 July Show: Date is set for July18, 2009. We are considering an open show (youth and adult) to draw in more people next year. Nearly all other counties run their shows as "Open". Brenda will investigate how classes are divided and report at next meeting. We also discussed the possibility of doing a separate Gymkhana show the next day (Sunday, July 19, 2009). Kelly H. will check if this date would be available. We should also practice with our timer system to ensure it is working. We will need to vote on these items at the October meeting to allow enough planning time. Sweat Shop: We will hold another "Sweat Shop" during the winter months to complete our Mtw. Co. stall banners. Dates for 2009: Horse Show: July 18, 2009. Horse Camp: June 12-13. Miscellaneous: No 4-H Fun Nite this year due to budget cuts. Committee voted to send Tanya & Family a card and gift to welcome their new baby boy. Anne S. will check on speaker system type and price. Elections: New officers for 2008/2009 were elected as follows: Chairperson: Brenda Weyers; Vice-Chairperson: Anne Siebold; Secretary: Marilyn Lentz; Treasurer: Sheila Cron.
