MinutesManitowoc 4-H Horse Committee April 14, 2009 Manitowoc County Office Complex
Meeting Called to Order—7:00 PM by Chairperson Brenda Weyers. Attendance: Marilyn Lentz, Tanya Joas, Brenda Weyers, Barb & Megan Pritzl, Lucy, Kaylyn & Kelsey Cigler, Zach Sager; Sara & Faith Lubner; Anne, Brianna & Amber Siebold, Chelsea Neumann, Terri Wilfert, Kim Luedtke, Lindsay Hansen, Camryn Braun, Chloe & Mrs Sebo, Maddie Schamburek (& her dad), Crystal Peterman, Heather Haberland (her mom & brother too!), Val Gengler, Tina Baxter, Skyler & Brandon Joy. Secretary’s report: Approved as read. Treasurer’s report: Approved as read. Old Business: Winter Project Meetings: People gave their reports on the March project meeting. Amber Siebold learned to extend the trot; Brenda Weyers thought the ball analogy was helpful. Our clinician, Joan Waak, did an excellent job! Open Pleasure & Gymkhana Shows: Trophies for the shows will run $9-10 each. Mounting blocks will be too expensive for high point awards, so the committee decided on belt buckles for both shows. Bridle/halter bags will be purchased for Grand/Reserve awards. The volunteer sign-up sheets were passed around once again. The insurance quote we received was similar to that purchased by Branch River Riders and Horse-A-Rama. Motion passed to pay $542/year, which covers all our Open Arenas, Spring Camp, and Horse Shows. Kids selling tickets for the 50/50 raffle will have to operate on the “buddy system” for safety. The committee also discussed ticket prices, to be determined at a later meeting. There will be a combined show program; sponsors will be announced on both show days. Horse-A-Rama: Marilyn reported that the total sales were around $15,700. Final numbers will available in May. Suggestions were made about locking up small, valuable items, checking in your own items, and charging an “office fee” to cover the cost of paper, ink, etc. Stall Banner Sweat Shop: The banner workers got a good start on the final touches to the banners. All will be ready for use in September. Horse Bowl/Hippology: Marilyn Lentz, Lucy Cigler and Terri Wilfert will chaperone members going to Horse Bowl. We should have both a junior and senior team, with some alternates. The committee agreed to reimburse drivers for their mileage. Horse Project T-Shirts: Terri Wilfert passed around shirt orders. Shirts will be burgundy, with an outline of Manitowoc County and two horse heads. Names can be put on the front and long sleeves. Horse Bowl participants must order by April 24th in order to get their shirts in time for the competition. Charter Requirements: By-Law 7.3 was changed last month. The Guidelines also need to be updated by September 2009. Members are encouraged to look at them on the website, and recommend any changes they think need to be made. New Business: Open Arena/Gymkhana Practices: Open Arenas will be held every Wednesday from May 6th to September 9th (with the exception of fair week). The Gymkhana team will have once-a-month clinics, and pleasure clinic dates are set for 6/24, 7/8 & 29, and 8/12. Open Arenas will definitely be cancelled whenever there is lightning; Lucy Cigler will be the contact person for cancellations. All members are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the chance to bring their horse to the Expo grounds. Spring Trail Ride: The Spring Trail Ride is set for May 30th at High Cliff State Park. Details will be finalized at the May meeting. Spring Horse Camp: Jack & Paula Curtis will be our clinicians. Bring topic & fun game suggestions to the May meeting. Camping is $20 per site; stall charge is $15 per stall. Reservations should be made with Barb Pritzl. The general schedule will be the same as last year. Horseless horse members may buddy up with a horse project member as long as both the members and their parents have a safety agreement. Participation Prizes: Anne Siebold purchased just under $200 in prizes at Horse-A-Rama. Anyone who finds a good deal should still feel free to purchase and be reimbursed by the committee, but please let Anne know how much so she can stay within our budget. Other Dates for 2009: Kewaunee Co 4-H Horsemanship & Trail Clinic May 17; State Hunter/Dressage Show June 26-28; Manitowoc County Fair August 25-30; State Gymkhana September 12-13; State Horse Expo September 17-20. Other New Business: Trailblazers Horse Club is looking for a 4-H club to run the food booth at their horse show Sunday, July 26 at Expo. All profits would go directly to the 4-H club. If interested, see Brenda for contact info. Horse ID forms are due May 1st to your main leader or a Horse Committee officer. The form will be sent out by email, in case people cannot get the form off the Spaces page. Adjourned: 8:15 PM Next Meeting: Tuesday, May 12, 2009; 7:00 PM.
