More on this at the next meeting. We filled out a judges evaluation form for the WSHC. Suggestions for next year:split bareback class into 2 age groups. Consider an open show (youth and adult) to draw in more people. Open Arena: July 9 our clinician was Shann Schwartz and featured Trail obstacles. We had great attendance (22 horses & 26 youth!) and it was good practice for Fair. July 30 was dressage with Joan Waak and Gymkhana with Paula Curtis. With the split groups, the kids got some extra attention. August 13, 6:30 PM will be a mock show to prepare for Fair, with clinician Eby Higdon. Members voted to pay open arena clinicians $75 each. Participation Books: Books for 2008/2009 are available on the website or at upcoming events. 2008 Fair: Horses arrive Tuesday. Judging show is Wed. Wed. evening we will have hot tamales available for dinner. Anyone else may bring other dishes, bars, etc. Instead of a potluck lunch, we will do a breakfast for the Participation Party at 8AM on Thursday, volunteer cooks, helpers will be needed. We will begin our Fun Show at about 10AM with horse and horseless games, followed by a Costume contest. Tanya made up a “4-H Game Tote” to keep all of our game supplies together. $1 food booth coupons will be given to all Fair entrants. 40 Participation books were turned in this year. Horse Judging Team: Some members are interested in starting a Horse judging team for next year. If there is enough interest we could get a judge to give a class at one of next year’s project meetings. New Business: Gymkhana Team: Lucy Cigler has organized a series of clinics with Paula Curtis for those interested in Gymkhana. Several of our members will be participating in the State Gymkhana (Sept. 6,7), and this will allow them to prepare prior to the show as well as for anyone interested in Gymkhana. See the website for dates and times. The Committee voted to pay up to $350 for the clinician for these clinics. In addition, anyone who wants to organize similar practice clinics for members going to the State Horse Expo (Sept 11-14), the same funds will be available. Again, this would be open to all 4-H youth. Dates for 2009: Kelly secured the following dates with Expo: Horse Show: July 18, 2009. Horse Camp: June 12-13. Extension Office Support: Terri informed us of a request to contact your county supervisor to support the re-hiring of office support staff which directly affects 4-H activities. Adjourned: 8:15 PM Next Meeting: Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008; 7:00 PM.
